about me

I love food! I love to cook and I love to eat. I started cooking full scale meals for my family when I was 12 (just because I was interested!). I was even changing recipes and experimenting with different flavor combinations back then. I also love to travel and tend to my roses and garden. The picture above is of Lake Como, from our most recent trip to Italy.

My favorite cookbook is Maya Kaimal's Curried Favors. Her South Indian recipes are so tasty.

Favorite Foods:

I love Indian, Middle Eastern, Mexican-influenced, and Asian cuisines. I probably cook Italian food the most often, since my husband and I both are of Italian heritage. I also like making vegetarian meals, soups, salads, and lots of veggies.

Since I am a dietitian, I love to make recipes low in fat and saturated fat, but still big on flavor. For most recipes, it is pretty easy to make your own adjustments and still have it taste delicious (for example, using oil instead of butter, less oil than the recipe calls for, substituting lower fat ingredients, etc.). With baking desserts, it is more of a challenge. But I do have a sweet tooth, so I am constantly trying new things with that. I have grown fond of making sorbets and low fat ice creams. It is amazing to me that substituting nonfat milk for cream still produces an awesome product. I also love to make muffins healthy by increasing the fiber and lowering the fat and saturated fat. Yum!

Life's too short for mediocre food!

I thought I might also explain my rating system. I am honest in star ratings, according to the following:

5* = loved it, very special, one of the best in it's class
4* = really liked it
3* = liked it
2* = it was just OK (just as zaar classifies it)

All the recipes I post here are ones that I have made and are favorites.
