about me

My love for cooking started when I lost my Mom when I was 13. Odd but true. I was awed by the fact that I figured out how to make Uncle Ben’s instant white rice, mixed with a can of stewed tomatoes and received compliments from my Dad (he was such a great and brave man). My quest for excellence in taste comes from my Philippine Aunt and her mother, who in retrospect, were both gourmet cooks.

Favorite Foods:

My next favorite type of cooking was from the first garden Dad and I planted. We did tomatoes, parsley, basil and marigolds. We were off, trying out all types of Mediterranean recipes. I always made sure we had a little bouquet of marigolds in a pretty cup or vase on the table when we ate... So silly but so important. Those flowers represented to me my mother saying it was o.k. when I messed up. Just try again.. I am still big on adding flowers from the yard to the table.

I have since branched into all sorts of cooking. First Latino and then Asian. I now find myself mixing them all up and loving it. I use wonton wrappers with Italian fillings and whole wheat pasta with Asian noodle sauces. I crave matzoh ball chicken soup and I dream of ways to use chipotle in adobo sauce. I have been in GA for 12 years and adore all their southern simple comfort foods. I love making home made pasta and drying all sorts of herbs from my garden for the winter. My newest quest is to start a small bee farm. Save the bees! We need them...

All this from a little Irish/Scottish girl originally from Boston who lived in a predominately Jewish neighborhood. It appears it is a small world after all… I look forward to enjoying your recipes and hope that I can share with you some that you will enjoy as well.
