I live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, and love it. Having been a writer, editor and graphic designer for years, I am now pursuing my great love - helping people write their life stories - as a personal historian. My family's heritage is Dutch (parents, siblings and myself born and raised in the Grand Rapids/ Holland/ Zeeland areas of Michigan), so I am always looking for recipes, as well as other ideas, related to the Netherlands.
My family always begs me to bring my famous Sweet Potato Souffle for the holidays, and my friends beg me to bring my Burgundy Mushrooms appetizer.
I've found some new favorites on this site, and have eliminated the searching for ideas elsewhere, as Recipezaar has been a gold mine of great recipes!
Outback Restaurant is my favorite - not for the steaks, so much, although they are good - but for their steamed veggies - YUM!!!! A server told me one time that they steam them in the microwave in individual plastic ziploc-type bags to achieve their tasty, tender quality. I personally don't want to microwave with plastic bags, due to the concern about unhealthy leaching, but I would love to learn a way to duplicate the results, if anyone has any suggestions.
