I live in Chattanooga with my husband and daughter. I work at a used bookstore, and I love to read pretty much everything, especially cookbooks. Some of my favorite cookbooks are those of Nigel Slater, Barbara Kafka, Thomas Keller, and Nigella Lawson, plus the Moosewood series. I think perhaps my biggest pet peeve is food snobbery, and indeed snobbery in general. My husband has been put on a renal diet for his kidneys, so many of the recipes I look for now are tailored to his diet..
Oh, a big thank you to all who have reviewed my stuff recently. I am currently without premium membership and unable to tell you so on an individual basis.
I like curry, rare steak, vegetables, herbal and black teas (but not fruity), fresh herbs, lentils, frittata, mangoes, pomegranates, fresh gingerbread, satsumas, som tam, peppermint ice cream, pumpkin, roasted everything, and fried pickles. My favorite places to eat in Chattanooga are Sweet Basil, the Meeting Place, Tony's Pasta, and Durty Nelly's.
My favorite dishes to cook tend to be very involved, but not very detailed- like baking bread, or making risotto or soup- anything with mindless kneading, chopping, or stirring. I compare these and knitting with meditation. It seems if I keep my mind just a little busy I can empty it, but if I keep it still it tries to run away.
