This can be used to sweeten all kinds of things. I use it most for tea and mixed drinks. Cheaper than buying the bottled stuff at the store AND can be flavored simply by adding some extract in the flavor you want for the finished product. I have added mint, orange and vanilla extracts just to name a few. Start with about 1/2 tsp and taste. Then add more if you desire.

2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine sugars with with water in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir often to keep from scorching.
  2. 2
Once mixture boils, reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Store at room temperature sealed tightly in a glass jar for best results.

I have a few recipes in my "to do" folder requiring simple syrup, so I figured it was about time I made some! I saw Guy Fieri on the Food Network keep his in a clear plastic squirt bottle, so I got one yesterday at Walmart (for under $1) and I was good to go. I did add 1 tsp of Vanilla flavor and it is wonderful! Made for BEVY TAG (so that I can make some more bevy's).
